Possessing a voice of remarkable sweetness and performing on the organ and piano , Mrs. Catherine Brock of 23 Woodside avenue, Hillcrest, comes from an old family of musicians. Her father, the late E. A. B. Mellor, was one of the best known bass singers of the city, singing here from early boyhood until nearly the close of his life. He took the solo part in a quartet rendered at the Odd Fellows' Home six weeks prior to his death, which occurred in his eighty-sixth year, two years ago. The father was Mrs. Brock's trainer from childhood and she began her career as a vocalist when but twelve years old.
At the age of twenty-six years, Mrs. Brock lost her sight, but her great love for music and her naturally cheerful disposition, together with a faith that has never been shaken, have helped her rise above the great affliction, and the result has been a beautiful, useful life that is indeed of priceless value to her seemingly numberless friends.
Mrs. Brock is widely known among the charitable institutions of Trenton, often singing for their benefit. She has also done concert work in many of the churches here.
Besides being proficient in music, Mrs. Brock has learned to sew, crochet, and to do many of the tasks of women.
Her children possess their mother's love and talent for music. Perhaps the most gifted of these was Fred Brock, who lived for some time in Providence, R.I. and who died in Pasadena, Cal., a little over two years ago.
Such a life as Mrs. Brock's should be an incentive to anyone laboring under affliction, and it is her advice to fellow sufferers to strive to rise above every physical disability and instead of allowing it to take possession of them, to possess and master it so far as in them lies.

Mrs. Catherine Brock Hartman, 24 Ashton Avenue, widow of Philemon Hartman, died yesterday after a lengthy illness, at her home. She was in her 86th year. Mrs. Hartman, a charter member of the Bethany Presbyterian Church had been blind for the last 60 years. She was a member of the New Jersey Blind Association. Surviving are two sons, Charles A. of Trenton, and Morris C. of Pittstown, N.J., seven grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren. Services will be held from the Poulson & Van Hise Home for Service, 408 Bellevue Avenue, on Thursday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock. The Rev. D. Wilson Hollinger , pastor of the Bethany Presbyterian Church will officiate. Friends may call Wednesday evening from 7 to 9.
