ENOREE, SC-- Our Loving Mother, Mattie Ruth Chaney Watson, 81, of 1750 Rocky Ridge Road, went home to be with her Lord, Thursday, December 23, 2010, at Spartanburg Regional Hospice Home.
A native of Union County, she was the daughter of the late L.J and Clarice Estes Chaney and the widow of Donald M. Watson. She was a graduate of Cross Anchor High School where she was the captain of the girls basketball team. She was a faithful and active member of Cedar Shoals Baptist Church where she was a former Sunday school teacher, a member of the Sonlight Sunday school class, a pitcher for the church softball team, WMU and the Joy Senoir Adult Group and was a former volunteer with Helping Hands Ministries.
Survivors include one son, Dennie Watson and his wife Renee of Enoree; three daughters, Sandra S. Pitman and her husband Bobby of Roebuck, Sharon Burch and husband Kenny of Enoree, and Amy Williams and husband Wesley of Enoree; one brother, L. J. Chaney Jr., of Spartanburg; three sisters, Virginia Starnes of Cross Anchor, Mary Groves of Union, and Grace Craig of Duncan; nine grandchildren; and eleven great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held 2:00 PM - 3:30 PM Sunday, December 26, 2010, at Cedar Shoals Baptist Church. Funeral services will be held 3:00 PM Sunday, December 26, 2010, at Cedar Shoals Baptist Church officiated by Rev. Stephen Cannon and Rev. Elton Hunter. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
Memorials may be made to Cedar Shoals Baptist Church Building Fund, 1650 Rocky Ridge Road, Enoree, SC 29335.
