A Family descendant gives this account for Carmelita.

[Carmelita was 8 yrs. old when she came to Texas with her father, Joseph Rutherford.
Joseph Rutherford, her father, was said to have been based in the military at Ft. Jesup, Lousiana. Believed to have served under Col. Berryman.
Joseph Rutherford then served in the Texas Army in Nacogdoches in 1835.He served in the Battle of Bexar and was present at the Famed Alamo where he died.
While serving in the Texas army, Joseph, had left his young daughter, Carmelita, in the family care of Joseph and Delila Durst. When Joseph died at the Alamo, the Durst family to continued to care for Carmelita, just like a daughter. After Joseph and Delila Durst died, their only son, James Durst, sold 60 acres of land in Linwood community to Carmelita, with affection for just $1, so it was gifted to her.

Carmelita Rutherford was the daughter of Alamo Hero, a
Joseph Rutherford.
A census shows her birth as North Carolina. Other record shows her birth as South Carolina.
Carmelita Rutherford first married Samuel Bean and they had one son:
Joseph "Joe" Bean who died in the Civil War in Battle of Mansfield in Louisiana just before the War ended.

About one year after her husband, Samuel Bean died, Carmelita married William Martin.
Her husband, William Martin, also served in the Civil War.
Their children were:

Andrew Martin
Sarah Jane Martin
Elizabeth Martin
Helena (Martin) Dickey
George John Martin
