Kenton Youth Reported Lost Over Europe

KENTON, June 1 - Mr. and Mrs. R. N. Schoonover of Kenton have received news from the War department that their son, S. Sgt. Clinton Kraft, 23, is missing in action over Germany since May 13. Sgt. Kraft, a member of the U.S. Army Air Forces stationed in England, has been overseas since March 1, 1944. As far as is known, he has completed a dozen missions as a waist gunner on a B-24 Liberator bomber.

Kraft enlisted for aviation service in January 1941, from Lima, as a mechanic in ground forces and spent 18 months in Panama. Later he returned and was stationed at Ft. Myers, Fla., where he received his wings as a gunner. He was stationed for sometime at Ft. Myers as a gunner instructor.

At Salt Lake City he was assigned with a crew on a B-24 and from there left for overseas duty. While in Panama he had charge of an armament group. Sgt. Kraft attended Kenton schools but was graduated from Lonoke, Ark., high school in 1939, which school he attended his last two years. While in Kenton high school he was active in all sports.

Sgt. Kraft was born June 17, 1920, near Dola. His father died when he was a small child. Besides Mr. and Mrs. Schoonover, he has two sisters, Carol and Mozelle Kraft, Kenton, both employed in defense work at Lima.

Kenton Flier Reported Dead

KENTON, July 14 - S. Sgt. Clinton W. Kraft who formerly was reported missing in action, now is reported killed in action over Germany since May 13, according to a telegram received by his stepfather and mother, Mr. and Mrs. R. N. Schoonover from the War department. The government received the information thru the International Red Cross who secured the message from the German government.

A member of the U.S. Army Air Forces, he had been stationed in England and had been overseas since March 1, 1944. He was believed to have completed 12 missions. He was a nose gunner on a B-24.

Sgt. Clinton Kraft

KENTON, May 17 - The body of Sgt. Clinton Kraft, son of Mrs. Robert N. Schoonover of Kenton, brother of Mrs. Carl Prater and Mrs. Charles R. Laws, both of Lima, arrived in Kenton Monday night. Brief funeral services were to be held Tuesday at 4 p.m. with the Rev. Roger Turrell in charge. Burial was to be in Ada Woodlawn cemetery.

Memorial services for Sgt. Kraft were held last Tuesday jointly with services for Robert N. Schoonover at Schindewolf funeral home.

Sgt. Kraft was a member of the U.S. Army Air Forces stationed in England. He lost his life over Germany, May 13, 1944.

Sgt. Kraft was born June 17, 1920, near Dola. He attended Kenton schools.
