BENJAMIN F. BROCKETT DIES IN KENSINGTON.
Funeral Services Will Be Held at His Daughter's Home This Afternoon..
45 YEARS IN TREASURY.
Funeral services will be held this afternoon at 2:30 o'clock for Benjamin F. Brockett, 88 years old, who died Saturday night at the home of his daughter, Mrs. William B. Pugh, in Kensington. Interment will be in Rock Creek cemetery.
Prior to his retirement in 1921, Mr. Brockett had been connected with the Treasury for 45 years. In the early 80's he was a special representative of the government, traveling in the extreme Southwest and California before the advent of the railroads, and figured in many exciting experiences.
Mr. Brockett was born in Carmi, Ill., in October, 1835. At the outbreak of the civil war he enlisted with an Illinois regiment and served as lieutenant with distinction, being present at the siege of Vicksburg. After the war, he practiced law in Illinois, later coming to Washington.
He was a member of the Burnside post, G. A. R., and a former commander. He also was prominent in church work and helped organize Gunton Temple Presbyterian church, of which he was for a long time an elder. He was in excellent health until the death of his wife a few months ago.
Three daughters and two sons survive Mr. Brockett. They are Mrs. Clarence S. McLean, of Buffalo; Mrs. William B. Pugh, of Kensington; Mrs. Charles S. Muir, of Chevy Chase; Paul Brockett, of this city, and Bluford Wilson Brockett, of Cleveland.
