Sara H. Patton

Mrs. Sara H. Patton, 82, of Durant died Saturday, February 9, 2002 at Oktibbeha County Hospital in Starkville.

Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m., Monday, February 11 in First Baptist Church of Durant with Rev. Ed McDaniel officiating. Burial was in Mizpah Cemetery with Southern Funeral Home of Durant in charge of arrangements.

A native of Tennessee, she was the daughter of the late John M. and Modena L. Cargill Howard.

Mrs. Patton was a member of First Baptist Church of Durant and a member of the Mamie Clark Sunday School class. She had served as president of the Mississippi Polled Hereford Cattlemen Association and was a Trustee of the Durant Public Library. She was also a member of the Mississippi State Bulldog Club and was an avid sports fan of MSU for over 50 years.

She was the widow of Dr. Coy E. Patton, and was preceded in death by two daughters, Jane Reed Powell and Gina Dabbs Patton.

Survivors inculde: son John H. Patton of Starkville; sister Ann H. Jackson of Pass Christian; and six grandchildren.

Serving as active pallbearers were: Jim Patton, Bill Patton, Robert Earl Patton, Freddie Patton, Donny Patton, and Jackie Burrell.

Honorary pallbearers were special friends: Ruth Aldridge, Dot Blanton, Cathy Britt, Eunice Craig, Jean Hartley, Kathi Hester, Verna Ramsey, Gloria Vaughn; members of the Durant Federated Woman's Club and members of the Mamie Clark Sunday School class.

Memorials may be made to the Mississippi State University Bulldog Club, funds to be used for the baseball program.
