OBITUARY:

Funeral services for Alexander "Alex" Cuthbertson Edgar, 97, of Coal City, Ill., were conducted on January 10, 2003, at Goodwin Funeral Home. Rev. Irvin Darnall and Rev. Paul Cannon officiated the services. Burial followed in Lawrence Cemetery in Trigg County.

Mr. Edgar died on January 5 at Miller Center in Kankakee, Ill., of natural causes.

Mr. Edgar was born on April 24, 1905 in Scotland. He was the son of the late John and Margaret Edgar.

Mr. Edgar operated steam engines, thrashing machines and drag line. He was a 66 year member of Operating Engineers Local 150, Woodman of the World, and the Area #1 Outdoor Club. He was also a member of New Hope Presbyterian Church.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Lurlene Dixon Edgar "Lucy;" a son, Donald Edgar; four brothers; and one sister.

Survivors include a son and a daughter-in-law, John William and Lucille Edgar of Coal City, Ill., a daughter and son-in-law, Shelby Jean and Edward Jewett of Ohio; eight grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Mae Scaman of Morris, Ill; and Jessie Brown of Coal City, Ill.
