The Reverend Gordon H. Albers, 74, of Hot Springs Village went to be with his Lord and Savior on December 7, 2010, following a courageous battle with brain cancer. He was born in Battle Creek, Iowa on July 8, 1936 to Harold and Alice Albers.
He graduated from Concordia Theological Seminary in Springfield, Illinois in 1962 and began his ordained ministry at St. Paul Lutheran Church in New Orleans, Louisiana. He subsequently served at Bethel Lutheran Church, Bryan, Texas; St. Paul Lutheran Church, McAllen, Texas; and Our Savior Lutheran Church, Austin, Texas. He later served as interim pastor at Emmanuel Lutheran and Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Taylor, Texas and at Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church in North Little Rock.
Gordon loved serving the Lord in parish ministry and social work within the church and community. Prior to his illness, he was actively involved in Habitat for Humanity, Heifer International and Katrina Relief efforts. An avid traveler, always ready for a new cultural experience, he will be remembered for his deep love of family and friends, his unique sense of humor and his joy of hiking and exploration.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Gary, and granddaughter, Lauren Ashley Meister. Gordon is survived by his wife and best friend of 47 years, Charlotte; daughters: Michelle (David) Meister and Nichole (Craig) Pellar; granddaughters: Kelsey and Ashley Meister, and Kayla Pellar; sister, Beverly (Raymond) Bergmann; brother, Wayne (Kaye) Albers; sister-in-law, Linda Cunningham; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A memorial service following private family inurnment will be held at Grove Hill Cemetery in Dallas, Texas on December 11, 2010. A celebration of praise and celebration of Gordon's life will be held at Christ Lutheran Church on Saturday, December 18, 2010 at 10:00 AM.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to ELCA World Hunger, Wheat Ridge Foundation, The Heifer Project or the American Brain Tumor Association
