From Edwin Rice's 1886 Biography: Mr. Rice was born in Livingston Co., N.Y., March 11, 1827. His parents were Amos and Anna (Norton) Rice, natives of Massachusetts and Connecticut respectively. They moved to this State, making settlement in White Rock Township, this county, in 1837, young Rice of this notice accompanying them. The father of our subject had the honor, for such it certainly was, of erecting the first log house in that township, which he placed on section 7. He had purchased on his arrival in the township some 300 acres of uncultivated land, and on this he located, determining to establish a home for himself and family. Their children were ten in number and all lived to attain the age of man and womanhood, except one, who died when six years of age.
