Basil M. Johnson, 84, of Ozark passed away Saturday July 31, 1999 at his home. Basil was born Monday June 28, 1915 at Christian County, Missouri, the son of John Frances Johnson, and Emma Daisy Shipman Johnson. On October 12, 1940 Basil was joined in marriage to Flora Faye Winslow at Ozark. Basil and Faye would soon celebrate 59 years of marriage.

Basil served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II. Basil worked in the mines and for the railroad and was an excellent mechanic. Basil was of the Baptist faith and was converted early in life. Basil loved to fish, hunt, especially coon hunting. He also enjoyed digging ginseng root and has the honor of being recorded as the digging the largest ginseng root in the state of Missouri.

Basil was preceded in death by his mother in 1923, his father in 1955, and an infant son, David Paul in 1945. He was preceded in death by six sisters and one brother. Basil will be greatly missed by his survivors who include his wife Flora Faye; three sons, Richard Lee and his wife Carolyn of Highlandville; Roger- Dale and Tommy Steven both of Ozark; a daughter Brenda Gail Pruett and her companion Roger Dunlap of Strafford; his Mother-In-Law, Ina Biers of Nixa; his grandchildren; Jennifer Christman, Leslie McCafferty, Nikki Johnson, Lucas Johnson, Rhonda Langley Robin Blansit, Annahlee Johnson, Ricky Hood, Tina Johnson, Tommy Johnson, Michael Johnson, and Kelly Pruett, His step grandchildren; Mike Sportsman, Brian Sportsman, and Brad Sportsman; his great-grandchildren, David Langley and Daniel Langley. Also surviving are nieces, nephews and many other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were at 2 p.m. Tuesday August 3, 1999 at. the Harris, a Heritage Funeral Home, Ozark, with the Reverends Hubert Swearengin and Bob Long officiating. Burial with military honors were at the Highlandville Cemetery. Visitation were Monday, August 2, from 7 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
