LAST RITES FOR MRS. HAINS IN RAYNE MONDAY
Pioneer Acadia Parish Citizen Succumbs Saturday After Lengthy Illness
Mrs. Flavia Zulmae Dumesnil Hains, 81, widow of the late Joseph Elias Hains, and a pioneer Acadia resident died at her residence in the Ebenezer section at 10:10 p.m. Saturday following a lengthy illness. Funeral services were conducted at 9:30 a.m. Monday at St. Joseph's Catholic church in Rayne, with the Rt. Rev. Msgr. Hubert Lerschen conducting the final rites. Burial was made in the cemetery adjoining the churchyard, where her husband was buried in 1901. The Gossen Funeral Home of Rayne was in charge of the funeral arrangements.
Born in St. Mary Parish, the daughter of Theodore Dumesnil and Adelaide Langlinais, Mrs. Hains came to this section with her husband more than 60 years ago. The farm where she resided was the last large tract to be homesteaded from the government-owned lands in this area. Surviving are three sons, J. Del Hains, Dallas C. Hains and Wilbur P. Hains, all of Crowley; a daughter, Mrs. Saul Bodin of Franklin, La.; a sister, Mrs. Ella Pitre, also of Franklin; and four brothers, Alex Dumesnil of Franklin, Theodore and P.F. Dumesnil of Port Arthur, Texas, and Clet Dumesnil of Lafayette.
