LaVern missed a lot of school on account of Rheumatic sickness that she had as a child. At the time she was out of school with the aches and pains her parent neither one knew what is was that was causing it. . . After getting through school she went to Springville and did housework for years and finally went to Idaho. There she met and married Don Welch.

Then the war came and and he was called to serve in the U.S. Army. Previous to this LaVern and her sister Eugenia went to Pocatello, Idaho. It was while there they started going to the University of Idaho. They both took up machinist work. With their new skills they went to Vancouver, Washington to seek employment in the Kaiser Shipyards. She worked there the whole time Don was in the Army.

After the war she returned to Burley, Idaho to wait for Don's return. They moved to Ontario, Canada. It was there that their infant son was born and buried. After that Don and LaVern began to drift farther and farther apart until they finally separated. She says her life has been one of sadness and loneliness. Her health was gone and she had a hard time getting around due to her heart condition. She died December 31, 1957 in Salt Lake City during heart surgery.
