Although her headstone shows her birth year as 1827, other documents indicate that Lucinda Sawyer was actually born in 1826, the daughter of Plant Sawyer (1779-1840) & Ruth Eastman (1785-1864).
She grew up in Vermont & was married there about 1849 to Amos Pettingill Collins (1823-1910). Of their known children, the first 5 were born in that state, & the last was born in Wisconsin where the family had moved for little more than a year, before moving on to Bremer Co, Iowa, in 1867.
