Amos Pettengill Collins was the son of Charles B Collins (1796-1871) & Susan Currier (1793-1893). He spent the first 42 years of his life in the hills of Vermont, & it was at Corinth, Orange Co, Vermont, that he was married about 1849 to Lucinda Sawyer (1826-1880).

They moved to Wisconsin in 1865 & 2 years later settled in Bremer Co, Iowa.

In 1869 Amos joined the Freewill Baptist Church.

After Lucinda died in 1880, Amos remarried several years later to Mrs Laura Ames of Waverly, Bremer Co. What happened to her is unknown, but in 1887 he married again, this time to a Mrs Laura Crittenden, also of Waverly.

The year before, Amos spent several months visiting his son Oscar in San Jose, California, & in 1908 he returned to California to live with his son.

At the time Amos died, his 3rd wife was living in Wisconsin.
