Cameron M. Dunn, 95, of Camp Hill, passed away Sunday, December 19, 2010, at Holy Spirit Hospital. He was born March 28, 1915, in Lake Placid, NY, the son of Seymour Gourlay and Elizabeth Maxwell Dunn. He was the devoted husband of Juanita (Bunny) R. Dunn, originally of Lewistown, Montana, and enjoyed a 57 year marriage before her passing in July 2005.
Cameron was a fifth generation golf professional, Douglas Gourlay and William Dunn families of Edinborough, Scotland, golf ball and club makers of the 1810's era.
He was a life member of the Professional Golf Association of America since 1935, and at the time of his passing, was one of 3 longest serving members with 75 years of service. He was also a life member of the Golf Course Superintendents Association of America since 1952 and an inductee to the Central Pennsylvania Sports Hall of Fame in 1988.
Cameron was a World War II Veteran serving in the US Army in the United States and the Pacific Theatre. He retired in 1946 as Major in the Field Artillery.
He served as a Golf Professional and/or Golf Course Superintendent in New York, New Hampshire, Connecticut, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Florida, California and the Republic of Panama. He was a resident of Pennsylvania since 1950 and his professional work at Pennsylvania Golf Courses included Conestoga Country Club-Lancaster; Blue Ridge Country Club-Harrisburg; Tioga Golf Club-Wellsboro; Carlisle Country Club-Carlisle; Cedar Brook Country Club-Blue Bell; Cumberland Golf Club-Carlisle. It was during his tenure in Panama that he met Bunny as she served there in the Women's Army Corps.
After retirement, Cameron and Bunny spent winters in central Florida and summers in the Carlisle area. Both before, and following Bunny's passing, he enjoyed landscaping, creating rock art, wood working, reading, bird watching and following golf tournaments on TV.
Survived by son Craig and wife Cindy Adams Dunn of Camp Hill, and sister Helen Dunbar, Shenandoah, Iowa.
An interment service will be held at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery on Monday, December 27, 2010, 11:30am. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Appalachian Audubon Society for the Waggoner's Gap Sanctuary and Hawk Watch, P.O. Box 15123, Harrisburg, PA 17105-5123.
