Funeral services were held Sunday at 2:30 p.m. in the Wanchese Assembly of God
Church by the Rev. David Daniels and the Rev. Carroll Daniels. Burial will
follow in the Cudworth Cemetery in Wanchese. Twiford's Colony Chapel is in
charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Payne was a native of Rodanthe and had lived in Wanchese for 66 years. She
was a member of the Wanchese Assembly of God Church and the Women's Missions
Organization.
She was the daughter of the late Charlie and Mrs. Polly Meekins Herbert and wife
of the late Bellove Folger Payne.
Surviving are one daughter, Mrs. Catherine Reber of Wanchese; one son, Louie B.
Payne of Wanchese; three brothers: John Herbert of Rodanthe, Charlie Herbert and
Jimmy Herbert, both of Wildwood, N.J.; 13 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren
and 6 great-great-grandchildren.
