LCDR William E. "Sonny" Clower, 85 of Liberty died Saturday, December 18, 2010, at Beacham Memorial Hospital in Magnolia.

Mr. Clower was born March 14, 1925, in the East Fork community, to the late O.C. Clower and Mabel Burns Clower Moore.

Sonny and his brother Jerry grew up at East Fork also known as Route Four Liberty. He served in the United States Navy during WWII and retired as a Lieutenant Commander. He was an avid supporter of Mississippi State University. His hobbies included fishing, boat building, tailgating at football games, bar-b-queuing, politics and writing. He was a wonderful husband, dad, grandfather, great grandfather uncle and friend, and he was a master story teller. He found joy in playing with his grandchildren on the farm.

Mr. Clower was a member at large for the Mississippi State Board of Funeral Services.

Mr. Clower was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Eileen Turner Clower; his step father, Elliott Moore; and one brother, Jerry Clower.

Survivors include his wife of 41 years, Jodie Anders Clower of Liberty, MS; two sons, Paul Melton and his wife, Jan of Baton Rouge, Brent Melton and his wife, Donna of Madison, MS; one daughter, Glenda Morrow and her husband, Joe of Ft. Worth, TX; one sister, Linda Clower of Chester, VT; one sister-in-law, Homerline Clower of Liberty; six grandchildren; Janis Morrow Jones and her husband, Tom; Cindy Morrow Kemrite and her husband, Tim; Jamar Melton and his wife, Christina; Andy Melton and his wife, Britt; Mary Dara Melton Cassity and her husband, John; and Lee Anna Melton; 12 great grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews friends and relatives.

A special thank you to Mr. Clower's physician, Dr. Luke Lampton, the nurses and staff of Beacham Memorial Hospital, caregivers: Elton Perry, Helen Jackson, Peggy Ott, Brandon McCray and Diane Strickland. The family wishes to express appreciation to his devoted home healthcare nurse, Sherry Walsh and his loving nephew and niece, Ray and Chris Clower.

Visitation will be Tuesday morning from 10 am until services at 11 am from the Jones Funeral Home Chapel in McComb. Military funeral honors will follow in the East Fork Cemetery in Liberty. Dr. Victor Walsh will officiate.

Pallbearers will be Ray Clower, Bill Sharp, Jamar Melton, Mac Anders, Mike Smith, Tommy Johnson and Joe Morrow. Honorary pallbearers will be Elton Perry, Andy Melton, and Tom Jones.
