Lewis David Craft was born on May, 7, 1849 to Catherine Vines and David Jonathan Craft, Jr.

On March 16, 1871, he married Martha Jane "Mattie" Smelzer, daughter of Paschal and Frances Bates Smelzer. The Smelzers were from Lisbon, Bedford County, Va.

Mattie and Lewis had four children:
Sarah Elizabeth "Bettie" Craft
Robert Paschal Craft
William Lewis Craft
Gertrude Elizabeth Craft

Lewis David and Mattie sold land on Big Timber Ridge to Mrs. Kate Smith on Dec. 20, 1899.

He passed away on March 31, 1923. Interment in Andrews Chapel Church Cemetery in Springwood, Va.
