Follow-up to account of Joe McBride's untimely death published in the July 2, 1891 edition of the Carthage Weekly Press newspaper.

Dunn Gives Himself Up
Perry Dunn, the man charged with the killing of Joe McBride, the Tuckahoe postmaster and merchant, gave himself up yesterday to Constable Ben ---, and was given a preliminary hearing in Joplin today. He has been hiding in a drift since the killing and was not armed when he surrendered.

Dunn's Preliminary
Perry Dunn, charged with killing Postmaster McBride at Tuckahoe a week ago, has had his preliminary examination, which was finished yesterday before Justices Craycroft and Orear at Joplin. Their decision will be rendered on Monday. Dunn will be bound over, but will be admitted to bail. It is said that public sympathy is very strong for the accused man. The rock with which he killed McBride weighed 14 ounces.

The verdict came back on November 11, 1891 and was published in the Carthage Weekly Press newspaper the next day on the 12th. It read:

Perry Dunn Acquitted
The jury in the Perry Dunn murder case was out about a half hour last evening and then brought in a verdict of not guilty. It will be remembered that Dunn killed Joe McBride at Tuckahoe near Joplin last summer by striking him in the head with a rock. The defense was upon two issues - first, that the killing was done to save his brother's life, and the second was that McBride died from heart disease rather than the effect of the blow. It is thought, however, that the first defense is what cleared him.
