He was born in Bethlehem, N.Y., and was the son of Anne Nicklas DeGrush of Delmar, N.Y., and the late Charles DeGrush. James was involved with erosion control wetlands mitigation construction and had retired from the U.S. Navy as a senior chief petty officer. He was a volunteer firefighter for the City of Virginia Beach for 15 years.
James is survived by his loving wife, Maureen DeGrush; his mother, Anne Nicklas-DeGrush of Delmar, N.Y.; his son, James DeGrush; as well as his daughters, Jessica DeGrush and Jennifer DeGrush, all of Virginia Beach.
A funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Lynnhaven Chapel. Burial with full military honors will follow in the Albert G. Horton Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery.
