John A Wallace was born on May 11 1847 as John "Augusta or Augustus" Ramsey.

He is the son of Dr Henry A Ramsey and Isabella Jane Cartledge Ramsey.

John became the man of the house at the age of 9 on August 29 1856 when he father passed away. That household included younger brothers James and Robert as well as Aunt Rebecca and cousin Bella at times.

Exactly what happened that caused the last name change is unproven, however there are many family stories going around but none have been proven to me. I have been told there are written letters in existence that collaborate the full true store in the hands of some of his descendants, but having not read them, I do not want to spread false rumors.

What is known is sometime between 1870 and 1876 he left the home in which he was the "Man of the House" which included his mother, aunt, cousin and maternal grandfather; and then married Mary Polly Coker, who is said to be 100% Cherokee but again that is not something I have been able to prove, at least not to myself.

It is somewhere between those two points in his life in which he changed him last name from Ramsey to Wallace.

Some time between marrying Polly and 1990 John and Polly settled in Kiomitia Texas and raised a large family with many decedents.

If anyone has details that will help me answer the questions about John please send me a message and let's collaborate our information.
