He then enlisted as a substitute for 1 year on October 12, 1864, at age 44, in Company E, 199th Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry and on Oct. 13,1864 was transferred to Company H, 97th Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry.
He died after the muster out roll was prepared but previous to the muster out of his Company. The date of death was date not given. [Note: his company mustered out in North Carolina on August 28, 1865]
