Private Martin H. Tobin, enlisted in Company C, 48th Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry from Schuylkill County, on September 11, 1861 and was discharged June 28, 1864 due to wounds received in action.

He then enlisted as a substitute for 1 year on October 12, 1864, at age 44, in Company E, 199th Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry and on Oct. 13,1864 was transferred to Company H, 97th Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry.

He died after the muster out roll was prepared but previous to the muster out of his Company. The date of death was date not given. [Note: his company mustered out in North Carolina on August 28, 1865]
