John Adams was the husband of Jane Hutchinson. John married second, in 1809, to Miss Margaret "Peggy"McIlhenny/McElhaney. Peggy was also married to Robert Shields. Some of John and Peggy's family are also buried at this cemetery.


Both sons, Capt. James and Capt. Hugh served in the War of 1812. They had connection to English nobility and were also connected to the Presidential branch of the Adams Family. He married Jane Hutchison about 1787. They were the parents of nine children. He died on 20 June 1837, in his hometown, at the age of 75, and was buried in New Providence Presbyterian Church Cemetery, Raphine, Rockbridge, Virginia
