LARRY SMITH
Larry Smith, lifelong resident of Lucas county, was born Sept. 1, 1875, and died Dec. 11, 1960, at the age of 85 years. He was the last surviving member of his family.
After farming for many years, he moved to Chariton in 1938 and worked on the railroad until his retirement.
He was united in marriage to Adah Blue April 28, 1908. To this union eight children were born: three sons, Merl of Arbella, Mo., Millard of Rock Island, Ill., and Joe of Des Moines; and five daughters, Virginia Nicoletto of Davenport, Genieve Holmes of Chariton, Maudie Halferty and Helen Roberts of Des Moines, and Mildred, who died at the age of 3.
Besides his wife and children, he is survived by 16 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, Dec. 13, at 2 p.m. at the Miley Chapel. The Rev. Lester Hall officiated and interment was in the Chariton Cemetery.
