PEORIA - Laura Louise Johnson, 96, of Peoria died at 6:05 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 15, 2010, at Methodist Medical Center.

She was born March 15, 1914, in Pekin, Ill., to Otto Hugo and Laura Josephine (Graham) Hardt. She married Robert R. Johnson on Sept. 28, 1940, in Burlington, Iowa. He died Dec. 24, 1998, in Peoria.

She also was preceded in death by three brothers, Bill, Walter and Albert Hardt, and three sisters, Esther Larimer, Thelma Oltman and Ellen Warner. Surviving is one sister, Jane Danz of Kennewick, Wash.; one daughter, Mildred (George) Gregg of Yates City, Ill.; two sons, Phillip (Rebecca) Johnson and Leonard (Sally) Johnson, both of Hanna City; six grandchildren, Holly Gillam, Georgia Altic, Troy Clayton, John Gregg, Shawn Gregg and G. Scott Gregg; seven great-grandchildren, Frank and Hayley Gillam, Alexis, Connor and Logan Clayton and Emily and Jacob Altic; and many nieces and nephews.

Laura graduated from Pekin High School in 1932. She graduated in 1939 with an RN degree from John C. Proctor Hospital at the corner of Fisher Street and Second Avenue in Peoria. She met Robert, her husband, while working at Proctor Hospital. She later quit her job and moved to the farm, which was her lifelong dream.

Laura enjoyed being a nurse, a farmer's wife and going to threshing reunions with her husband. She will be deeply missed.

The family would like to thank all the doctors, nurses and staff for their care while Laura was hospitalized.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday, Dec. 20, 2010, at Davison-Fulton Bartonville Chapel. The Rev. Dr. Paul Maitland will officiate. Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday at the chapel. Burial will be in Smithville Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to Logan-Trivoli Rescue Squad and Fire Department or the charity of the donor's choice.
