Rebecca Lynn "Becky" Benton, 54, passed away Friday, December 25, 2009 at her residence.
Visitation is 3-5 pm today at Ott and Lee Funeral Home in Brandon. Services are 11 am Monday, December 28, 2009 at Brandon Baptist Church with a 2 pm graveside at Poplar Springs Cemetery in Mendenhall. Rev. Bernard Nail and Rev. Farley Earnest will officiate.
A blessing came to earth on February 26, 1955. Becky was born in Winona, Mississippi, to Tom and Louise Benton. A happy, normal early childhood was spent first in McCarley, Mississippi, then in Brandon, Mississippi, where she spent over fifty of her fifty-four years. Despite her failing health, she lived with joy and sweetness, untouched by the harshness of the world around her. Whatever her circumstances she responded with acceptance and a loving disposition. From early childhood, she spent hours playing, and listening to music, especially religious hymns and arrangements. She enjoyed the family cats, who often sat in her lap and slept at the foot of her bed.
Becky is preceded in death by all her grandparents, Ray and Alva Hancock and A. L. and Dovie Parker Benton, as well as her brother, Christopher Ray Benton.
She leaves her parents, Tom and Louise Benton and her brother, Keith Benton, of Brandon.
In lieu of flowers, the family request donations to Rebecca Benton Scholarship at Brandon Baptist Church at 100 Brandon Baptist Drive, Brandon, MS 39042.
