John Edward Huffman, 66, of Charleston went home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on December 15, 2010 at CAMC Memorial Division after a long illness.

John served in the United States Army as a paratrooper from 1962 to 1965 with the 505th and 509th parachute infantry. He was an original charter member of the West Virginia Airborne Association. He was the coach of the Sissonville boxing team and a Vietnam veteran.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Opal Faye McKinney Huffman and Raymond O. Huffman. He was raised by his great-grandparents, John Ed and Anna McKinney.

He is survived by his wife, Judy Ann Hackney Huffman; five children, Donna Hamrick and her husband Steve and Tonja Stephens and her husband Joey, all of Eleanor, and Melissa Hackney, Kevin Hackney and his wife Lisa, and Cheryl Kingrey and her husband, Todd, all of Sissonville; eleven grandchildren and great-grandchildren; brother, Raymond Huffman and his wife Barbara of Tampa, Fla.; sisters, Margaret Cole and her husband Chuck of Newport, Mich., and Lucy Russo of Tampa, Fla.

John was a retired truck driver for Kroger Company with 29 years of service. He was a member of the Local Union 175 for 32 years. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, but his great love was motorcycle riding with his wife Judy and many friends. John will be greatly missed by his family and friends. He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, and friend.

The funeral service will be 11 a.m. Saturday, December 18, at Long and Fisher Funeral Home, Sissonville with Pastor Al Mendez and Pastor Fairley McCormick officiating. Burial will follow in the Guthrie Cemetery, Edens Fork, Charleston.

A gathering of family and friends will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
