Esther was a member of the Christ Memorial United Methodist Church in Bloomfield, Nebraska and attended the Dunlap United Methodist Church. She sang in the church choir in Bloomfield, Nebraska and Yankton, South Dakota, and most recently sang with the St. Patrick's Catholic Church Choir in Dunlap, Iowa. She was a member of the county extension clubs, a birthday group from Bloomfield, and a Tuesday morning coffee group in Dunlap. Esther played piano and organ for various churches in both the Bloomfield and Yankton areas. She sang a solo part in the Messiah many times in the Bloomfield and Yankton areas. She enjoyed sewing and she made wedding gowns for both of her daughters and one granddaughter as well as quilts and potholders galore. Esther also like to crochet and crocheted many afghans and baby booties. She enjoyed making counted cross stitch pictures for her family and church friends. She also enjoyed listening to music especially Joan Hoppe's Christmas music as well as Mannheim Steamroller.
Esther died Tuesday, November 2, 2010, at the Dunlap Nursing and Rehab Center in Dunlap, Iowa at the age of 82 years, 11 months and 20 days.
Esther was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Robert F. Case on April 24, 1983; seven brothers, Carl, Herb, Fred, Henry, Bill, George and Marvin Schroeder; two sisters, Matilda Schroeder and Louise Anders; granddaughter, Janel Case; and grandson, Allen Donahey. She is survived by her three children, Joyce and her husband Patrick Cogdill of Dunlap, Iowa, Janet and her husband Dwight Donahey of Grand Island, Nebraska and James "Jim" Case and his wife Ann of Carson City, Nevada; six grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; one sister, Katherine Pedersen of Santa Rosa, California; and many other relatives and friends.
