Hillery's father was John Alfred Skaggs b. abt 1852 and died sometime after 1880. Nothing is known about his death or possible other marriages, as he deserted his family when Hillery was only 3 years old. This particular John Alfred Skaggs was the son of John Calvin Skaggs.

OBIT - GREENSBURG RECORD-HERALD
Hillary [Hillery] Skaggs, 87, died at 11 am Tues., 16 Nov [1965] at the Jane Todd Crawford Memorial Hospital. He was a member of the Liberty Baptist Church and had served as deacon of the church for many years.
He was married in 1900 to the former Fanny Thompson, who survives. Mr. Skaggs is also survived by 3 sons, Willie Skaggs, Dayton, Ohio; Jessie Skaggs, Indianapolis; and Robert Skaggs, Allendate; 5 daughters, Mrs. Annie DeSpain, Indianapolis; Mrs. Gracie Durrett, Mt. Sherman; Mrs. Lucy Bell and Mrs. Hazel Vaughn, Allendale and Mrs. Nora Hal of Summersville; 17 grandchildren, 51 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild.
Funeral services were held at 2 pm Thurs., 18 Nov at the Liberty Baptist Church with burial in the Bell Cem. Rev. Milton Judd and Rev. Lahren Loyall officiated.
Pallbearers were Hoyt Skaggs, Herbert Skaggs, Steve Lyons, Garnett Wesley Bell, Mike DeSpain and Kenneth Thompson. Attending the funeral from out of town were Mr. and Mrs. Willie Skaggs, Dayton, Ohio, Mr and Mrs. James Lyons, Mr. and Mrs. Jessie Skaggs, Mrs. And Mrs. Earl DeSpain, Mr. and Mrs. Leon Skaggs, all of Indianapolis; Mr. and Mrs. John Skaggs, Mr. and Mrs. Clifford Ramsey and Mrs. Shirley Skaggs, all of Dayton, Ohio.
