PEKIN - Melvin L. Becker, 88, of Pekin died at 7:53 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 18, 2010, at his home.

Melvin was born April 25, 1922, in Pekin, Ill., to John and Stella (Hampton) Becker. He married Lois M. Heaton on Jan. 1, 1942, in Pekin, Ill.

Preceding him in death were his parents; five brothers, George, Kenneth, Eugene, Alvin and Raymond; and one sister, Viola Schlottman.

Surviving are his wife, Lois of Pekin; two sons, Donald M. (Linda) Becker of Peoria and Randal L. (Margaret) Becker of Blowing Rock, N.C.; five grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Melvin was employed at Caterpillar Inc. as a carpenter for 41 years, retiring in October of 1982.

He was a WWII veteran of the United States Army Air Forces, attaining the rank of staff sergeant.

He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Pekin. Private services will be held. Burial will be in Sand Prairie Cemetery.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Henderson Funeral Home in Pekin.
