Mrs. Edith F. (Dellepigne) Jacobs, of Waltham, died Friday, December 17, 2010 in Cambridge Hospital. She was 80.
Edith was born on September 10, 1930 in Waltham, the youngest daughter of Joseph and Maria (DiSauro) Dellepigne.
She was a graduate of Waltham High School. Her late husband, Richard, served in the United States Navy and together they lived in various parts of the country during his career including Washington, Maine and Long Beach, California. She returned to her much loved Waltham in 1968 after having lived in Bellingham for 10 years.
Edith stayed at home to raise her five boys. Afflicted with multiple sclerosis almost 40 years ago she lived her life with grace and dignity amidst its many setbacks and challenges. She was a talented piano player, artist and painter. Her children recount how she was a devoted mother and fantastic cook with her specialty being anything Italian.
In earlier years she taught in the CCD program at St. Mary's Church.
She was predeceased by her husband, Richard P. Jacobs, Sr. who died on June 28, 2008 and her son, Randall D. Jacobs, on August 14, 2007.
She leaves four sons, Richard P. Jacobs and his wife, Jane, of Bolton, Ronald Jacobs and his wife Lisa, of Uxbridge, Reynold ‘Joseph' Jacobs of Damariscotta, Maine and Robert Jacobs and his wife, Andrea, of Walpole; daughter-in-law, Mary Jane (Anderson) Jacobs of Waltham; her sisters, Millie Warren, Dora Jasset, Yolanda Antico all of Waltham and Eleanor Pendergast of Framingham; 13 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
Family and friends will honor and remember Edith's life by gathering for calling hours in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham on Wednesday, December 22nd, from 5 to 8 p.m. and again at 9 a.m. on Thursday morning before leaving in procession to Saint Mary's Church, 133 School Street, Waltham where her Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Waltham.
