Second son born to Adam Elijah Allen and Nancy Gardner-Allen. Married Sarah Hidy on May 12, 1832 in Fayette, Ohio. They were parents to 11-children: 10-boys and 1-girl (Elizabeth Jane). His father fought in the Revolutionary War, and then he had 4-sons that fought for the preservation of the Union.

His son, William Allen, Jr., was a Civil War veteran: Service Record: Enlisted as a Private on 4 August 1862 at the age of 21. Enlisted in Company C, 90th Infantry Regiment Ohio on 26 Aug 1862. Mustered Out Company C, 90th Infantry Regiment Ohio on 13 Jun 1865 at Camp Harker, TN.

His son, Aaron Allen, was a Civil War veteran: Enlisted as a Private on 2 January 1864 in Company C, 90th Infantry Regiment Ohio at the age of 22. Died of disease Company C, 90th Infantry Regiment Ohio on 19 Aug 1865 at Victoria, TX.

His son, George P. Allen, was a Civil War veteran: Company G, 168th Ohio Infantry.

His son, Adam Wagoner Allen, was a Civil War veteran: Company K, 44th Ohio Infantry, and Company K, 8th Ohio Cavalry.
