Edith Gertrude Chittum, 89, of Rt. 1, Vesuvius, died Thursday, Feb. 2, 1989 in Stonewall Jackson Hospital. She was born Aug. 6, 1899, in Rockbridge County, a daughter of the late James Madison Camper and Sarah Stinnett Camper.

She was married to the late Hoyed Chittum. Mrs. Chittum is survived by three sons, Melvin Chittum of Ristertown, MD, Hoyed W. Chittum of Amherst and Linwood Chittum of Lexington; four daughters, Mrs. Gay Ogden of Smithport, PA, Ms. Irene Semevolous of Jacksonville, FL, Mrs. Sarah Camper of Roanoke and Mrs. Patricia Kegle of Fort Wayne, IN; 38 grand-children; 60 great-grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

The funeral was conducted Monday, Feb. 6, in Lomax Chapel by the Rev. Stanley Ogden. Burial followed in Green Hill Cemetery.
