For everything there is a season, and a time for every matter under heaven…Ecclesiastes 3:1. She was the fifth of nine children born to her late parents, Edith Mae Evans and William Eugene Evans. Four of her siblings preceded her in death: Janice Evans, Edgar Jackson, Melvin Jackson, and Dorothy Evans. God planted Delores in a strong and close knit family where she sowed seeds of kindness, selflessness, and devotion to family. She would exemplify these traits throughout her life. On May 18, 1951, Delores was baptized at Saint Joseph Catholic Church. She would remain a devout practicing Catholic for over fifty years. She was a faithful member of the former Immaculate Heart of Mary and Saint Katherine Drexel congregations. Delores received her primary and secondary education in Wilmington and graduated from Howard High School in 1960. Upon graduation, Delores, was awarded a full scholarship to Delaware State College and planned to major in Business Law. However, life intervened and Delores decided it was time to be independent and employed. Delores was employed in various capacities during her career; most notably at Lasko Products, Inc., where she worked for many years. Seeking a more challenging position, she transitioned to E.I. du Pont de Nemours Company Wilmington, Delaware, where she worked in the research and development facility.
Delores entered into a courtship with Sterling J. Freeman after an unexpected meeting in a cafe. Delores and Sterling were united in holy matrimony on October 2, 1965. The union included a stepdaughter, Berlin Necole Bell, and blessed the couple with a son, Kacy Nairobi Freeman. Delores demonstrated her love for the Lord by working, serving, and supporting many activities in her parish and donating to Catholic Charities. Delores was a God fearing woman who loved God and his word. She embraced everyone and refused no one and she will always be remembered for her patience, her gentle loving spirit, her helpfulness, and her devotion to God and her family. Delores always had a word of encouragement and uplift for her children, grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and great- nieces and great-nephews. She constantly reminded them there was "a time for everything." A time to weep, a time to laugh, a time to mourn and a time to dance…. With conviction and praise, Delores, worshipped the Lord and would always declare "what a mighty God we serve." Delores made a religious pilgrimage to Medjugorje to connect with the land that is considered holy by many because of reported sighting of the Blessed Virgin Mary. She returned replenished and with a deepened faith in the Lord. Her immediate family included three grandchildren, Novian Winters LeVan, Shawna Freeman, and Sharie Freeman with whom she spent many memorable and fun-filled times. Delores leaves love and kindness to her husband, Sterling J. Freeman, of Chester, PA, her son and daughter in-law, Kacy Nairobi Freeman and Shelly Smith- Freeman, of San Diego, California, her stepdaughter and son in-law, Berlin Bell-LeVan and John LeVan, of Thorndale Pa, her grandchildren, her siblings, her loving sister, Helyn Evans-Parker, of Chester, Pa, her loving brother, Robert Evans, of Chester, PA and her loving brother and his wife, George Evans and Priscilla "Joy" Evans, of Wilmington, DE, her nieces and nephews, Jennine Evans, of Chester, PA, Carmen Witcher, of Philadelphia, PA, Paris Witcher, of Chester, PA, Kenneth Witcher Jr., of Chester, Pa, Stacia Parker, of Philadelphia, PA.
