Businessman. One of 5 Armours who developed Armor and Company Meat Packing. In 1871 John Plankington and Phillip Armour opened a small slaughterhouse in Kansas City. The company already had two large packinghouses, one in Milwaukee and one in Chicago. John Plankington retired from Plankington and Armour in 1885 and Armour Brothers was organized. Phillip Danforth Armour, founder; Simeon B. Armour, eldest brother; A. Watson Armour, and his sons, Kirkland B. Armour and Charles W. Armour, made up the firm. The name was changed to Armour and Co. in 1910. The plant grew till it had approximately 90 acres of floor space, and employed about 5,000 people.
