Hans Ingwald Hansen Jr was living the best part of his life when an automobile accident took his life on July 23, 1953, near Detroit, at only 31 years of age. Hans had been in an accident that pitted a small car against a large truck hauling a load of steel. His neck was broken in the accident and he died instantly.

Tragically, the morning that Hans Jr died was the morning of Hans Sr's 70th birthday. Hans' mother, Juliane, was in the hospital for heart trouble so the doctor was informed first and he injected her with a sedative before telling her that her boy was gone.

Hans was married to Virginia Zygaj Greenwald, by Judge Owen Gavigan, in June of 1951 and together they were setting up their life at 1656 Graefield Road in Birmingham, Michigan with their young son, Thomas Greenwald. This was a second marriage for both. Hans had been working at the Electric Tamper & Equipment Company in Ludington.

After Hans' death, Virginia and Thomas moved back to Ludington in September, 1955 and that is where she passed away in November of 2007. She is buried next to Hans in Lakeview Cemetery in Ludington, Michigan. Her name is Virginia M Hansen on her grave marker, so it seems clear that she never found anyone who could replace her Hans.

Hans graduated from Ludington High School in 1939.
He was a member of the Bethany Methodist Church of Ludington.

For a number of years, Hans was a member of Ludington Lodge #736, Benevolent & Protective Order of Elks and also its Drill Team. In 1950, Hans was the Second Vice President of the Ludington Junior Chamber of Commerce and served on the Fire Prevention committee as well.

Upon his death, he was survived by his widow, Virginia; his eight-year-old son Tom; his parents, Hans Ingwald Sr and Juliane Hansen; siblings Ruth Marie, Agnes Annette, Vera Juliane, Thora Johanna, George Leslie, Russell Arthur, and Edna Mae.

Hans' first marriage was to Lois Marie Holmstrom at Emanuel Lutheran Church, in May of 1943. They resided in Muskegon, Michigan where Hans was employed by Norge Machine Products as a tool designer.

Hans and Lois had also lived in Detroit where Hans worked as a tool designer for Wolverine Design and Lois worked for the Ex-Cell-O Company. The eventually moved to California to escape some of the problems in their marriage, but as problems do, the problems followed them to California where they were finally divorced and Hans returned to Michigan.
