Anita L. Schafer, 64, Turtle Lake, died Wednesday, Dec. 15, 2010, at the Community Memorial Hospital in Turtle Lake following a courageous battle with cancer.

Anita Louise (Gondringer) Schafer was born April 17, 1946, at St. Alexius Hospital in Bismarck to Bernard and Clara (Panko) Gondringer. She grew up in Turtle Lake, where she graduated from Turtle Lake High School in 1964. Following high school, she attended business college in Rapid City, S.D. Anita married Larry D. Schafer on July 20, 1965, at Caledonia, Minn. She worked for Verna's Department Store in Turtle Lake for many years as well as the Turtle Lake Community Credit Union.

Anita was the ultimate hostess, enjoying time spent with family and lifelong friends. She loved working in her flower garden, being the Sunshine Lady for her church and especially enjoyed her granddaughters.

She is survived by: her mother, Clara Gondringer, of Underwood; son, Clark Schafer, of Turtle Lake; son and daughter-in-law, Shawn and Lani Schafer and their children Savannah and Cassidy, of Turtle Lake; three sisters, Donna (Art) Burger, of Bedford, Ind., Kathy Turner, of Salt Lake City, and Christine (Henry) McLaughlin, of Bismarck; three brothers, Paul Gondringer, of Turtle Lake, Tom Gondringer, of Turtle Lake, and Bill Gondringer, of Grand Forks.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Larry, and her father, Bernard.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday, Dec. 20, at 10:30 a.m., in St. Catherine's Catholic Church, Turtle Lake, with Rev. Frank J. Schuster as celebrant.

Interment will be in the Turtle Lake Cemetery.
