Charles P. Huntington, Jr. was purportedly buried with his second wife in Forest Home Cemetery, Milwaukee (as per contemporary documents such as the Wisconsin Death Index and the GAR obituary both cited below) - but the cemetery long denied they were ever there and many searches of both the published plot and other Huntington plots in the same cemetery revealed nothing until 4 Dec 2019, when researcher Margaret Berres cracked the mystery:

"Huntington WAS buried in that lot in Section 34 when he died in 1890. Notations of his burial were removed from the lot sheet and interment records when, on August 15, 1904, he was removed and cremated. Cremation records indicate the cremains were 'shipped to Pewaukee.'

His second wife, Frances Maria Huntington, was never buried at Forest Home. However, she was cremated there in 1906 and the records state her cremains were sent to Pewaukee for burial. I don't know if Huntington's cremains were ever buried in Pewaukee. What I do know is that he was interred in Forest Home in Milwaukee for 14 years then removed."(1)

C. P. Huntington's father-in-law by his 2nd wife, Daniel Hewitt Davis (1813-1879) is buried in Forest Hill Cemetery, Pewaukee, Waukesha Co., Wisconsin (Find A Grave Memorial 91348641) and one can only assume his cremains and that of his 2nd wife, Frances Maria [Davis] Huntington (1843-1906) are also in the same plot.

"Charles P. Huntington, a native of Connecticut, enlisted as Private in Co. F., 24th Wis. Vol. Infantry, August 6th, 1862, afterwards Major of the 1st U.S. Engineers. Mustered out of service October 24th, 1865. Was a charter member of this Post, being number two on the roll. He took great interest in the order and his remains were escorted to their resting place by the Post. He died September 9th [sic], 1890, and is buried on Lot 8, Block 10, Sec. 34, Forest Home Cemetery."(2)
