Elisha was the fifth and last child of Gideon Bingham (1714-1795) and his second wife, Abigail Baker Bingham (1735-1821), making him Gideon's 17th child. He grew up in Canterbury, CT, and was baptized at age 5 in the Canterbury Church, 23 Nov 1783. He eventually became a Baptist minister. At age 28 he married Tryphena Olney in Canterbury, 9 Nov 1806. They lived in Canterbury from 1806 to about 1813. (At one time, they may have lived Shrewsbury, VT.) Between 1813 and 1817 they moved to Gibson Twp, Susquehanna, PA, where he was a minister and farmer. By 1830 Elisha had moved his family to (McGrawville), Cortland County, New York. His children were George Joseph; Louisa, John, Lucius, James, and Sally Ann. In his final will, settled 25 Apr 1887, he left one dollar to each of his children and the rest to his wife.
