Born April 12, 1888 in or near Mobile, AL, Robert Rufus Ross was the 2nd child of George Joseph Ross, and Katherine Francis Joyner. He lived and grew up in the Whistler/Koster's area of Mobile. Around 1915-1918 he decided to travel and take a job with the lumbar mill in Pine Hill, AL. There he met and married my great grandmother Laura Etta Oliver. He lived most of his life working hard in the lumbar mill and was foreman most of his working years. After 1930's he moved to Thomasville, were he worked at the lumbar mill there. Although I was never able to meet him, I was told he was a very generous and loving man. As was told by a child of one of his co-workers at my grandmothers funeral, he was "one of the kindest men", whom her father had ever worked with.
