HORTON PIONEER DIES

Mrs. Ann Hardy Answers Final Summons at a Ripe Age

Mrs. Ann Hardy was born in Central Illinois, March 1, 1832. Her maiden name was Miss Ann Cooper.

On May 5th, 1850 she was married to Daniel Thompson. To this union was born seven children. In the midst of their domestic joy there came a cloud of sadness through the early death of Mr. Thompson in 1864.

In 1867 Mrs. Thompson married Mr. Andrew Hardy whose name she bears. To them was born two children, one of whom passed away in childhood, falling like the half open rose before maturity.

A son by the first union died in tbe prime of manhood as did also Mr. Hardy more than a quarter of a century ago.

Mrs. Hardy journeyed the afternoon and evening of the sunset slopes of life alone until at the home of her daughter, Mrs. W. A. Croile of Horton, on Thursday evening, weary with the burden and pain of months of suffering, she went to meet her God. Her age was 84 years, 2 months and 4 days.

Mrs. Hardy leaves to mourn their loss three sisters, Mrs. Frank Boyd, of Plainfield; Mrs. Mrs. Hennich of Burwell, S. Dak.; Mrs. Hannah Hass of Davis, Ill.; and seven children: Mrs. S. Smull, Clark, S. Dak.; Mrs. Geo. Logan, Baltic, S. D.; Mrs. A. Herbel. Portland, Ore.; Mrs. F. Blake, Herald, S. Dak.; H. J. Thompson, Ringling, Okla.; Mrs. W. C. Croile, Horton, Iowa; F. Schnyler, Burwell, Neb.; also 29 grandchildren, 39 great grandchildren besides a large number of friends.

The funeral services were held on Sunday from the Baptist church at Horton and the remains were laid to rest in the Horton cemetery.
