1920 Census: Jens Wolden (48) born about 1872 in Norway, was widowed and living in Battle, Beltrami, Minnesota with his children: Viola (14), Margrete (13), Peter (10), Alvin (8), and Jeannette (1 yr 10 months). Living with them was his brother Martin Wolden (42) born about 1878 in Norway.
Alvin Lorenz Wolden, 92, of Blackduck died Monday, November 24th at the Northern Pines Good Samaritan Center in Blackduck, Minnesota.

He was born on February 11, 1911 in Saum, MN the son of Jens and Betsy (Rolstad) Wolden. He was raised and educated in Saum, graduating from the Saum Consolidated School in 1927. He then attended the Park Region Lutheran School in Fergus Falls and studied business. He farmed in Saum for 16 years. Alvin farmed and worked at the grain elevator in Fosston for 10 years. He was drafted and served in the U.S. Army Air Force during WWII for 3 years. He was honorably discharged with rank of Sergeant. He worked as a manager of grain elevators in Grafton and Nash, North Dakota until retiring in 1974. He then moved back to Saum and Blackduck area until his death.

While in the service in WWII, Alvin was with the 455th Bomb Squadron, 323rd Bomb Group, trained as an aircraft armorer and flew in 6 missions from Northern France. He was Commander of North Dakota Military order of the cootie from 1963-1964, Battle Township clerk from 1975-1986, and a member of the American Legion in Kelliher.

He is survived by his sisters: Jeanette Anderson of West St. Paul, Minnesota, and Margaret Dickson of Grapevine, Texas; Cousins: Slim Wolden of Saum, Minnesota and Irene Olson of Kelliher, Minnesota; two nieces, and four nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Peder Wolden, and a sister, Viola Lee.
