James "Jim" J. Foster Sr., 75,of Petoskey,passed on at his home surrounded by his wife and children on March 13,2007. A memorial celebration of his life will be held at 1:30p.m. Saturday,March 24, at the North Central Michigan College Student Center(cafeteria) in Petoskey. Jim was born on Feb.14, 1932, in Petoskey, the son of Joseph and Jennie(Griffin) Foster. With the exception of his time served in the Army, Jim lived and worked in Petoskey all his life. Many people knew him as the man behind "Fosters Friendly Mobil Service." Others knew him through his 37 years as a Volunteer Petoskey fireman. Jim was very involved in his children's lives. His boys all spent time working with him at the service station. He also helped in many capacities with the Midshipman Drum and Bugle Corps and the Petoskey band programs. Jim was always ready and willing to help people and loved to be surrounded byfamily and friends at home and work.
He leaves behind his loving wife, Frances K. Foster: his children,Jerry(Terry)Foster Sr. of Flat Rock, MI., Linda (Mike) Appicelli of Haslett,MI., Mike (Karen) Neill of Bay City,MI., Janet(tom) Norris of Petoskey, Jim Foster Jr. of Petoskey, Ken (Maria) Foster of Commerce Township,MI., and Karen (Herb) Stanhope of Petoskey. Surviving siblings include Jack Foster(Dorothy), Pat (Bud) Winters, Margaret Pennell, Andy(Betty) Foster. His grandchildren are Tisha & Joe Foster Jr., Jerry (Katie) Foster Jr., Laura Foster,Tony & Leah Appicelli, Kevin & Troy Neill, Corrine Norris, Jessica (Jesse) Berg,Joshua & Rachel Foster,Abby,Anna, & April Foster: & three great-grandchildren, Noah & Eli Foster, and Emma Berg. He is also survived by many beloved in-laws,neices,nephews and friends.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his infant daughter, Sharon;son, Joe Foster Sr.; and siblings, Agnes Grigsby,Leo Foster and Art Foster Sr.
Jim's family request that in lieu of flowers, those wishing to honor him memory consider a memorial contribuation to Northern Michigan Cancer Crusaders, 5501 S. U.S. 131, Petoskey,MI 49770.
Arrangements were handled by the Hastings Funeral Home in Ellsworth.
