Mrs Emma J. Hoffman, 82, resident at 413 N. 5th St. Vandalia where she lived alone in an apartment, passed away at her home about 6:15 am Tuesday. She was found dead on the floor beside a breakfast table by Mrs Marie Kidd at about 8:15 am She had been under the care of a physician. Daughter of the late Clemens Mattes and Mary Bauer Mattes, was born Feb 6, 1873 in Shafter township. Her husband Joseph Hoffman, preceded her in death in 1925. Mrs. Hoffman had been a life long resident of Fayette Co. She had been identified with he Baptist faith for quite some time at the time of her passing and from many years previously with the First Baptist Church of Vandalia. Closest relative a brother, Dr. Charles L. Mattes of Kirkwood, Mo. There are many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 2pm Thursday at the First Baptist Church by Dr. Archie E. Brown. Burial will be in Fairlawn cemetery. Nephews will serve as pall bearers. Harold Mattes, Fred Mattes, William Mattes Paschal Mattes, Paul Mattes and Frank Mattes.
