Orville F. Braber, 36, division engineer for the Illinois Power and Light company, drowned in Lake Decatur early Sunday morning while he and a group of friends were swimming near his cottage on the north shore of the lake, between Spangler Heights and the Homewood Fishing club.

The body was recovered by city firemen after it had been underwater presumably half an hour. The body was found in 10 feet of water 10 or 12 feet from the end of the pier in front of the cottage.

Mr. and Mrs. Barber had been entertaining a party of a dozen or more friends Saturday night in their cottage, into which they had moved recently. Shortly before midnight the members of the party decided to have a a swim in the lake before going home. They were in the water about half an hour.

Mr. Barber was not missed until they started back to the cottage. At first they thought he might be playing a joke on them, but after calling to him and receiving no answer, they became alarmed and telephoned No. 1 fire station for the inhalator crew. Within 10 minutes after their arrival the firemen had recovered the body but efforts at resuscitation were without success.
