Thelma I. Echelberger, 97, of rural Ashland, died Tuesday afternoon, December 14, in The Good Shepherd Home, Ashland, after an extended illness. Thelma was born April 10, 1913 in Richland County, the daughter of the late Arthur and Grace (Hazen) Hout. She was a 1930 Galion High School graduate and had lived in her Mifflin Township, Ashland County home since 1936. She enjoyed crocheting and playing her piano and organ. On April 10, 1933 she married F. Cliff Echelberger who died in 1976.
She is survived by 3 sons and daughters-in-law: Dale and Joy Echelberger of Hayesville, Richard and Joan Echelberger of Butler, and Darrell and Becky Echelberger of Ashland; 15 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren, and 15 great-great-grandchildren; 2 half-sisters: Glorine (Britton) Strickler of Galion, and Lois (Britton) Yoha of Mansfield. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a step-son: Gene Echelberger, brother: Bernard Hout; 2 half-brothers: Carl and Wayne Britton
Funeral services will be conducted on Friday, December 17 at 11:00 am in the Byerly-Lindsey Funeral Home, Loudonville, with Rev. Ivan V. Beatty officiating. Burial will be in Vermillion Cemetery, Hayesville. Friends may call on Thursday, Dec. 16th from 3-7:00 pm in Byerly-Lindsey Funeral Home, Loudonville.
