Dorothy M. Maynard, 83, of Jefferson, South Dakota, died Wednesday, January 6, 1999, at Prairie Estates Care Center in Elk Point, South Dakota.

Services were held Saturday, January 9, 1999, at Berkemier Funeral Home in Sioux City, Iowa, with the Reverend Richard Zeck of McCook Lake United Methodist Church officiating. Burial was in the Richland Cemetery in Richland, S.D.

Pallbearers were Bruce McGinnis, Duane Jones, Jack McGinnis, Jay Maynard, Lyle McGinnis Jr., and Rob Maynard.

Mrs. Maynard was born on June 3, 1915, in Akron, Iowa, the daughter of Vance and Hannah (McGinnis) Wise. She graduated from Akron High School in 1933. She was active in the Akron United Methodist Church, was pianist and taught Sunday school until her marriage.

She married Dewey C. Maynard on March 13, 1934, in Craig, Iowa. Following their marriage, the couple lived in Sioux City until 1967, when they moved to Jefferson. Her husband died on April 22, 1975.

Survivors include one son, Delbert and his wife, Ann, of Akron; three sisters, Marguerite Natlich of Sioux City and Mildred Lee Helm and Lillian Fae Sabastia, both of Hurricaine, UT; one brother, Bill Weisenberger, of Fairfax, VA.; two grandsons, Jay and Rob Maynard, of Akron; and one great-grandson.
