Mr. Phillips was born Nov. 2, 1920, in Nelson County, a son of the late George Washington and Alice (Shumaker) Phillips.
He was also preceded in death by his wife, Nettie Elizabeth Phillips; a son, Bruce W. Phillips Jr.; and his siblings, Carol, Preston "Ped", Jimmy, James and Sidney "Bud" Phillips.
Mr. Phillips worked at Albemarle Soap Stone for more than 35 years and also at a saw mill with his father, George.
He is survived by a daughter, Rebecca A. Phillips of Charlottesville; a son, Harold L. Phillips, of Gordonsville; a sister, Inez Miller, of Charlottesville; two grandsons, Quintin and Alfred Phillips; three great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.
A funeral service was conducted Dec. 1 at Thacker Brothers Funeral Home in Scottsville. Burial will follow at Scottsville Cemetery.
