Wm. B. Durant was a County Certified school teacher at the Liberty Church and School, married one of his pupils, Zelda McKandles, served one term as State Representative for Leon and Madison Counties in 1892/3.

In 1887, he moved to Salado, Bell County, Texas where he taught public school in the Old Salado College building while he 'read law' and was admitted to State Bar Association in 1890, after which he returned to Leon County to 'practice law' until his death.

He died shortly after his wife, on his Father's Homestead land grant homeplace in the Rehobeth Community about 4 miles South of Buffalo, Leon County, Texas.
