MRS. ROBERTSON DIES SUDDENLY
-----
End Came While She Talked With Her Husband.
-----
Funeral Service Will Be Held at Residence, 613 S. Tryon, at 4:30 O'Clock Today.
-----
Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Robertson, wife of Dr. James Farrish Robertson, died yesterday morning at 9 o'clock at her home, 613 South Tryon street, after an illness of a week. Death was due to heart trouble.

Mrs. Robertson's death was a shock, for comparatively few knew that she was not well. Her daughter, Mrs. Harvey Wilson Moore, and the latter's children, of Pine Bluff, Ark., had been here for the summer and when they left, Mrs. Robertson accompanied them as far as Black Mountain. She remained there for several days, returning Wednesday night, September 11. Apparently she was in her ususal health, but Saturday night she said she did not feel well. Sunday morning she remained in bed. No apprehension was felt, although her physician was called in. She was much better Friday and yesterday morning was talking to Dr. Robertson about several matters of household business. She suddenly ceased speaking. The end had come.

The funeral service will be held this afternoon at 4 o'clock at the residnece, and will be conducted by Rev. Dr. Albert Sidney Johnson, of the First Presbyterian church, pastor of Mrs. Robertson. The bearers will be: John M. Scott, W. H. Twitty, John Roddey, George M. Rose, L. A. Dodsworth and Louis Williamson. The interment will be in Elmwood cemetery, this city.

Mrs. Robertson was a daughter of the late Robert Gilmer Grattan and Martha Minor Grattan, of Harrisburg, Va. She was born March 5, 1848. She was one of eight children. Two brothers killed in the civil war, Judge George Grattan, John Grattan, Judge Charles Grattan, Mrs. Lou Gratton Doyle, and Mrs. George Chrisman, all of whom are now dead with the exception of Mrs. Chrisman, who is living in Harrisonburg at the age of 80. Judge Charles Grattan resided in Staunton, the other members of the family in their native town, Harrisonburg. Mrs. Robertson inherited notable strength of character, was educated at the best of colleges of her day, and had traveled widely. As one of the most valued members of the Cranford Book club, of which she was a charter member, the strength and charm of her mind was keenly felt.

One the maternal side Mrs. Robertson was of the Minor family, of Virginia, Judge Minor being one of the eminent jurists of his day.

She was married to Dr. J. F. Robertson about 43 years ago, in Harrisonburg, Ca. To them were born five children: Mrs. Eugene B. Graham, Mrs. S. B. Alexander, Jr., Mrs. C. S. Alston, of Charlotte: Mrs. harvey Wilson Moore, of Pine Bluff, Ark., and Lieut. James F. Robertson, Jr., a physician of Wilmington, now of the United States army medical corps in France, having landed there last Friday. Mrs. Robertson, with her husband and children, came to Charlotte about 26 years ago from Culpeper, Va.

In faith she was a Presbyterian of the old school, orthodox and devotedly attached to her church. She was prominently identified with the work of the First Presbyterian church, and none was more loyal or staunch. Remarkable facts which emphasize the swee tcontent of her life was that she had never been sick in her life, had never lost a child or grandchild, although having five children and 14 grandchildren, and her death was without pain or suffering. Truly she has come to the end of a perfect day.
